Poem ~ Day 259 of War: Frontiers - Monday, 19 April 1915

The Parisian Paper Figaro states
How Italian cavalry,
Had clashed with the Austrians -
Close to the frontier.
The result being a large loss of life -
The Austrian army had
Been pushed back by Italy forces.

Sky duels had seen the French,
Dominate in fights
With German aviators  - to see
Hazardous acrobatics,
As in one chase, a French flyer
Shot an observer and pilot.

About Dardanelles, preparations
Began water activities,
As Troops moved by British ships -
Along with the loss
Of a submarine and capturing
Nearly all the crew -
Into the hands of the Turkish.

While unofficial reports state,
How Italian army
Are starting to concentrate,
And gather force
On mass, in readiness to occupy
Important positions.

Moving Eastwards to Mesopotamia
Where Turk presence
Was repelled - to be pushed back -
To lose their positions;
While a loss of many soldiers
Were on both sides.

In the war's eastern borders,
Russians hold onto
Strategic places, to prove
Their superiority
In the Carpathians, against more
Reinforcements
Of Austrian-Germany armies.

Meanwhile, growing anger rises
In Holland, as Dutch
Vessels were being sunk - in open
Deliberate provocation
By German nation for reprisals -
To draw in another
Country into the European war -
Possibly to treat
With equal disregard as Belgium.
