Charles Romer Williams - a Lieutenant
In 4th Dragoon Guards - temporary post -
Was a member of the regular Pytchley Hunt,
(That still continues a century on), to run,
Over Northamptonshire hills and woods.
His father, Romer Williams a gentleman,
Hunt Judge and owner of steeplechasers,
Lived at Newnham Hall, Daventry - where
Father and son shared similar passions.
Lieutenant Williams’ intentions being to
Take a pack of tracking Beagles to the front.
An owner of such dogs, Ernest Robinson
From Liscombe Leighton Buzzard, heard
About the officer's search and so decided
To make a loan to him of his hare hounds.
In a return to the Front, at end
of December,
Lieutenant Williams’ intention were
to share
Sports, with 2nd Cavalry Brigade,
for the
Belgium hare hunting season - the
hounds
Then, were shipped, against odds
of military
Permission, off to the front
whose photos,
Were to make appearances in the
Tatler.
