Poem ~ Greek War Rumors - Saturday, 11 September 1915

Impression sketch detail of Greek Officers at Salonika - by Jamie. See original at: http://www.illustratedfirstworldwar.com/item/fighting-men-of-greece-officers-and-men-of-the-greek-army-iln0-1916-0909-0016-001/#

With a naval history, that linked
to a heroic past of the Odyssey
And the Iliad - reality beyond
fables came in 1915, in rumours
Of Greece entering war.

An official Greek source made
Release to Reuters, how officers
Being on missions aboard, were
Recalled to Athens - a summons
To regroup the Hellenic Navy.

The complexities of the countries
Geography, already with expanded
Boundaries from Balkan wars -
Mixed in with internal politics;
Only time might tell the truth.

The recalling of Greek military
Forces suggested preparations
For war during September 1915
Such facts had no confirmations,
Beyond a Salonika conference.
