Poem ~ American Duty to Belgium - Saturday, 25 September 1915

Impression sketch of October 1915's edition of Metropolitan Magazine cover - by Jamie. See original at: https://www.pinterest.com/etsyduck/1915-fashion/

Within 1915 October's issue,
Of American Metropolitan
Magazine, Mr Roosevelt’s
Contribution declared how
It should be American duty,
To fight for Belgium.

The President’s own words,
Stated that while United States
Then made no action, during
The time of German invasion -
Activity could have been taken
On humanitarian grounds.

Such duties had been laid
Out in Hague Convention -
Rules imposed by 1899 and
1907 that had addressed
Conducts of war and Code
Of Lieber formed in 1863.

Mr Roosevelt however,
Pointed out how particular
Groups within America,
Worked against the state -
Particular pacifists, along
With certain Americans.

Groups with intent of greed
And treachery - and those
Sections with intentions to
Hinder munitions shipments
To the allies; they played
A brutality against Belgium.
