Poem ~ Women's Duty to Read - Wednesday, 2 September 1914

A proclamation appeals to the duty of women,
Is to not to stop reading new books,
Especially those published since war declared.
The advert reminds them millions are employed -
Girls being mentioned, as well as women and men.

Listed are all occupations involved in the industry,
And how they will be robbed of daily bread,
If readers refrain from reading. Marked in capitals
'DO YOUR SHARE FOR YOUR COUNTRY
BY KEEPING THESE PEOPLE EMPLOYED.'
