Poem ~ English Moustaches Banned - Friday, 11 September 1914

It is believed that a campaign has begun in Germany,
Promoted widely, by the daily spread of newspapers,
In outlawing the wearing of English style moustaches,
(Presumably this is aimed as the male gendered people?)
Of that country – A deep mourning is made that Germans
No longer wear the beards with the heavy schnurrbarts.

Hairdressers are given the widespread request not to cut
Any German beards according to the English fashion.
It should be noted that prior to the outbreak of August war,
The Prussian Guards Commander gave the absolute order,
That any of his officers could no longer wear the ‘toothbrush,’
Moustache - declaring this style as being very ‘un-German.’
(Perhaps Adolph Hitler should have been in these ranks)
